Celebrate National Allotment Week!

National allotment week is the perfect way to get involved with like-minded gardeners in your local area. The week aims to highlight the importance of growing your own fruit and veg. If you have a plot it’s the ideal time to show it off to neighbours and get others involved or alternatively, make the council more aware of the need for allotments.

Allotments are particularly popular for those gardener’s in cities or with small gardens. Their increasing popularity means that rent prices are going up and few are now available.

Allotments aren’t just important for gardeners, they are also extremely important for the british environment. If all the allotments in England were added together they would cover 58x the size of Hyde Park. Billions of insects and animals need allotments to survive.

Allotments have been linked closely to health and well-being. The calmning effect of gardening mixed with it’s health benefits can work wonders for someone feeling trapped in the city.

The National Allotment Society are holding ‘Party on the Plot’ events throughout the UK this year. Events in your local area will take place between the 6th-12th of August. Events range from bbqs, demonstrations, guided walks, competitions and much more. To find and event near you click here!
