Stunning Homemade Wreaths Straight From Your Garden!

Christmas decorations don’t have to be shop-bought to look beautiful and give that all important festive feel to your home. Why not create something a little more personal by collecting pine cones, berries, bark, seed heads, ivy and dried fruit and putting them to good use!

There’s a few bits and bobs you’ll need to make your decorations-

  • Gloves are important for handling garden materials and wire
  • Wire (an old coat hanger will do) for the frame of the wreath
  • Light-weight floral wire (available cheaply from your local florist) for attaching your garden foliage

A step by step guide to making a traditional Christmas wreath-

  •  Take two simple wire coat hangers, bend them into circles and tie them together using floral tape or wire.
  •  Add your base material- greenary of your choice. We recommend sprigs of eucalyptus or fir trees for a fuller wreath.
  • Neatly attach the base of your choice to the wreath frame using wire, don’t worry about it being a little messy -  just trim the base down to make it into more of a circle.
  • Attach your decorative garden foliage on top. Anything from pine cones, bark and bare twigs to dried and fresh flowers, moss and ivy. Secure with floral wire or hot glue if the wire is visable.
  • Use raffia or ribbon to tie the wreath to your door.

A twist on the traditional wreath, this scented orange and cinnamon decoration will brighten up your home this Christmas.

How about something a little different?

To make your orange wreath you’ll need the following-

  • Large Oranges (adjust quantity depending on how large your wreath is) for a medium wreath use 5.
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Ribbon or Rafia
  • Wire for the frame, wire cutters and gloves
  •  Apples or Lemons

Here’s what you need to do-

Firstly, you need to cut your apples, lemons and 2 of your oranges into thin slices.

  •  Create slits downwards on your 3 remaining oranges the whole way round but be careful not to fully cut into the fruit.
  • Cook your fruit on your oven’s lowest heat (for about 6 hours) until it is supple and leave it to cool.
  • While you wait take your floral wire and bend into a circle without joinging the top.
  • Thread alternating slices, full slit oranges and cinnamon sticks to fill up the wire.
  •  Join the top of your wire by twisting the two ends together.
  • Secure any loose fruit in place with floral wire and finally tie it with some ribbon or rafia to be attached to your front door!
