How much growth in a weekend?

Having spent the bank holiday weekend away from home, I am amazed at how much can change in such a short space of time.

The first notable difference in the garden has got to be the lawn which is in desperate need of a second mow and dandelion removing session. I just wish this weather would warm up again.

The leaves of the foxgloves that I planted in the autumn are huge and growing very well. What I didn’t realise was that in the first year of growth the plant only produces the long, basal leaves. It is in the second year, that the stem and flowers will develop.

All three potato varieties; Pentland Javelin, Carlingford and King Edward are starting to produce some lovely green shoots. I am going to wait until the shoots are about 15cm before I cover them up with compost and await their regrowth.

My pansy hanging baskets are all looking very happy and healthy, such a contrast to how they looked a few months ago when they were covered in snow.
