Slug and Snail Deterrent

I am feeling very excited about a package I have just had delivered.

You may remember a few months ago that when I was planting out my Begonias and Dahlias I had a huge problem with slugs and snails. To briefly summarise after much research I decided that the best way for me to deal with the slugs was to work with them as they do actually provide a great many benefits to the garden. I built a ‘slug home’ at the back of my borders which consisted of lots of lovely vegetation for them to eat and kept them off my plants.

Now this method was hugely successful and only a few of my Dahlias got nibbled. The downside was that half of my borders were used up for a slug home rather than plants, and I couldn’t adopt the same technique for my pots. Which brings me to the package that I have received in the post.

A natural slug and snail deterrent which provides the same results, plants kept untouched and no killing involved. This new product comes in a beautiful hessian bag which I think will come in useful next year for storing my potatoes. It is 100% recycled, 100% natural and completely safe to children, pets and wildlife.

It is a sendiment based formula, made up of old granite kitchen work surfaces which are saved from going to landfill sites. The granites are put around the base of the plants or around the edge of your border or can even used for mulching.

In my greenhouse I have lots of lovely new plug plants including Viola Rose Shades, Pansy Spring Dawn, Digitalis Mix, Primrose Alaska Fire Glow Mix so I am keen to regain my border from my slug house and try this product out.

I will let you know how I get on over the next couple of weeks.
